What is Reiki?

The Usui Reiki System

The Japanese word Reiki (pronounced “Ray Kee”) is often translated as “universal life-force energy”, but a more accurate version is “Spiritual energy”. Reiki as a healing system was founded by Dr Mikao Usui in 1922, and has been used and taught in the West since the late 1930’s.  As Reiki energy is a dynamic and evolving force, there are now many branches of Reiki that have stemmed from this original method.  Reiki is passed on from teacher to student during an attunement process.

Everything that exists in the universe is energy, which is vibrating and oscillating at different rates.  Reiki is energy also, and when we use it in healing it acts holistically affecting all of the energies that comprise the human body, animals or anything else in the natural world. Scientifically when we experience ‘good health’ it means that we are achieving a state of perfect subatomic communication between every part of the body.  ‘Ill health’, on the other hand, is a state where this communication breaks down so we become ill and our energy waves are out of sync. Thoughts and emotions, which are forms of energy too, have a greater impact on our wellbeing than we might believe, because they are part of the Divine Matrix of energy. Energy is all there is. Healing is about changing negative energy into positive energy and our perceptions and thoughts have a big impact on these energies. When someone takes control of the energies around and within them through their thought system, healing takes place.  Reiki works effectively alongside orthodox healthcare and natural remedies, however, it should under no circumstances, be a replacement for orthodox healthcare and treatments.

The Karuna Reiki® System

Karuna Reiki®, or the Reiki of compassion, evolved out of Usui and Tibetan Reiki and was founded by William Rand in America. All Karuna® registered teachers have a lineage which can be traced to a teacher licensed by the ICRT and ultimately to William Rand.

Karuna is a Sanskrit word and is used in Hinduism, Buddhism and Zen.  It is translated to mean any action that is taken to diminish the suffering of others and could be translated as “compassionate action”.  It is natural to extend compassionate action to every living thing without exception, because all things are connected and from the same source. All things are one and the same. It is stated in the Buddhist literature that Karuna must be accompanied by “parjna “ or wisdom in order to have the right effects. Karuna is the motivating quality of all enlightened beings who are working to end suffering on earth.  It will open you up to working closely with enlightened beings both physically present and in spirit. It is an extremely powerful form of Reiki.

Holy Fire® III Reiki System

Holy Fire Reiki is a type of Reiki energy and a system of Reiki healing based on Holy Fire energy which has been around since ancient times but does not have any religious meaning. It is a spiritual energy that creates wholeness through purification, healing, empowerment and guidance, and is at the root of Unity Consciousness. Holy Fire can heal on a very deep level and can be part of a Spiritual Path. It has unlimited potential in terms of healing issues and developing your spiritual nature. It works directly with one’s spirit and has the potential to develop higher levels of consciousness, which include developing the qualities of joy; peace; love; compassion; the ability to forgive others; becoming non-judgemental and creating a tremendous feeling of happiness and spiritual freedom. It can heal relationships and interactions with others and once received, continues to develop itself to be more evolved and effective. It heals deeply and quickly without destress, working continuously and spontaneously as issues come up.

Holy Fire Reiki was brought to us by the ‘Brothers and Sisters of the Light,’ composed of founders of all the Earth’s religions and spiritual paths, also known as the Ascended Masters, which includes Jesus and Buddha. Its prime goal is to work on healing one’s Culturally Created Self so that one’s Authentic Self can fully awaken.
